This is an exploratory research blog written by Cian O’Connor, a MA in Modernities student at University College Cork. His research interests include the absurd, the obscene, and the grotesque, particularly in relation to Southern Gothic literature (although this blog is by no means limited to those subjects). Cian’s work on writers such as Flannery O’Connor, Cormac McCarthy, and Flann O’Brien has been recognised by several awards and prizes, including the Undergraduate Awards (2015 & 2016), the UCC School of English Undergraduate Awards (2015 & 2016), and the UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences Excellence Scholarship 2016. He is a native Corkonian and self-confessed contrarian.
